| The late Mary Lois Tinson was a
life-long educator and Christian who served as the first
African American and the first woman President of the
California Teachers Association - a national lobbying
organization dealing with state and federal laws as they
relate to education and to teachers. When she passed away,
several state and federal representatives of diverse
races, religious beliefs and political standings spoke at
her services and their words all echoed those of then
Speaker of the House Cruz Bustamante. He stated that
within 5 minutes of meeting Lois Tinson there were two
things you unmistakingly knew about her: she loved the
Lord and she was passionate about the education of our
youth in California. The consensus among all political
officials, CTA representatives and Statewide leaders in
education was that single-handedly, Lois Tinson had done
more to bridge the gap between politics and education than
anyone ever had before. It is my personal goal as
President of Destination Christian Services, Inc. and as
Mary Lois Tinson's niece to carry her work one step
further and strive to bridge the gaps in education,
politics and Christianity. It is in her name, in
memory of her educational legacy and in honor of the
spirit-filled life she led in the service of Christ Jesus,
that the Mary Lois Tinson Christian Education scholarship
is made available to any student eligible. It is our
goal that no student and/or their submission entity should
have to pay tuition to the Destination Christian Academy
Online Educational program. Ultimately we hope every
student enrolled will be a recipient of this auspicious
Mary Lois Tinson Christian Education Scholarship. |
